Donation Funds and Endowments: A Closer Look

Below you’ll find details about the Temple’s new family of endowment funds. Most of TBE’s nine endowments have a corresponding “donation” fund, designated for the same purpose. There is, for example, both an Adult Education Endowment and an Adult Education Fund. Endowments will have their principal preserved with their interest available for use. Donation funds have no such restrictions and may be used as needed.

In most cases, larger gifts will go to the endowments, so they can be invested and accrue value for the Temple. There are two ways you can give to each of the nine combined funds: either by a donation or an endowment contribution. There is no minimum contribution for any of the donation funds. The funds also offering endowment opportunities are marked with asterisks.

**Adult Education Fund and Endowment: Both of these funds support the Temple’s Adult Education Program, including training activities and attendance at Union for Reform Judaism-sponsored adult kallot. The minimum endowment contribution is $500.

**Building Fund and Endowment: These funds help maintain, furnish, and supply capital expenditure monies for TBE’s Jewish space. The Building Endowment may also be used to support Genesis building needs and to repay debts. The minimum endowment contribution is $500.

Cantor’s Discretionary Fund: The Cantor uses these donations to help those in need, and to supplement a variety of projects and causes of the Cantor’s choice.

**Caring Community Fund and Endowment: Donations to these funds support the activities of TBE’s Caring Community Program, which provides for the needs of the TBE community. There is no minimum endowment contribution.

Flower Fund: Donations to this fund are used to purchase flowers for High Holy Days and as needed throughout the year.

Isaac and Pearl Levine Fund: This fund was established in memory of Isaac and Pearl Levine, the parents of Rena Soifer and Thelma Block. The funds are used each year in support of the confirmation class.

Kol Halev Film Fund: This fund was established to enable Kol Halev, Temple Beth Emeth's adult choir, to produce a video of it's trip to Eastern Europe in 2005 and Argentina in 2007. Donations support equipment, video production and future film endeavors for the choir.

Landscaping Fund: Donations to this fund support landscaping and yard construction activities around the facility. These activities are planned for and carried out by congregants from both the Church and Temple as part of our Genesis relationship.

**Library Fund and Endowment: Donations to these funds are used to purchase books and other educational resources for the library. The minimum endowment contribution is $500.

**Melvin and Lois Levy Endowment: This fund was established on the occasion of Rabbi Levy’s thirteenth anniversary at TBE. The endowment honors the Rabbi’s parents, Melvin and Lois Levy, and is used to provide an annual cultural or programming event of the Rabbi’s choice. There is no minimum endowment contribution.

Memorial Garden Care: Donations to this fund are used for maintenance and upkeep of the Temple’s cemetery section at Arborcrest Memorial Gardens.

**Music Fund and Endowment: Donations to these funds support the music program of the Temple. Possible uses include an annual or biennial concert, a Jewish music scholar-in-residence, instrument purchases, music, or support of the choirs in any number of ways, including the commissioning of music. The minimum endowment contribution is $500.

Oneg Shabbat Fund: This fund is used to provide refreshments after the service on Friday evenings. Donations of $100 provide the opportunity to sponsor the oneg for a special occasion and be listed in the service program.

Piano Fund: Donations to this fund are to be used to purchase a piano or other keyboard instrument.

Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund: The Rabbi uses these donations to help those in need, and to supplement a variety of projects and causes of the Rabbi’s choice.

Donations to these funds are used to maintain the readiness of the sanctuary and chapel for prayer. Possible uses may include: purchase of prayer books, maintenance of Torah and Navi scrolls, purchase and maintenance of ritual objects, and/or other support of religious services. The minimum endowment contribution is $500.
