I paid $200 USD for like 15 video presentations of WO topics at WWDC 2000. Those mean the world to me and are still relevant to this day. | Details...

I'm not going to WWDC - we use Macs exclusively, but I'm not interested enough in Mac-only technologies to fly half way round the world. If WOWODC was a 5 day, WO-only event, then it would be viable. I would be prepared to pay up to $200 for a video of the sessions alone. | open | Details... |

Project Wonder and Ajax Any new WO Features released Things to watch out for in a multi-threaded app. Dealing with HUGE result sets in an efficient way (e.g. cursors, batch navigation, etc.) Integrating 3rd party technologies. e.g. Lucene. I will attend on June 10th. | 1 | 1 | $200 CAD | Like Chuck's WO course 2 years ago, but with a focus on advanced WO technologies and best practices. It's easy to build tiny apps with small datasets. I'd like to know how other people deal with extremely large datasets. It would also be cool to have a session like the old Solutions with WebObjects where people get to showcase the projects they're working on. | Sunday before WWDC | Details... |

I'd really like to see at least one session for beginners interested in WebObjects! It's great to support the existing community with "migration to Eclipse" or "Project Wonder" or other sophisticated stuff but there should also be some basic introduction or show cases or "How to start with WO" tracks ... If there is interest in such a thing, I'm absolutely willing to help on getting it done! | during the WWDC week | Details...

| Janine Sisk | Project Wonder, WO Best Practices | 1 | Looks like I'll be there, woohoo! I agree with everything Jerry said. It just makes no sense to me that Apple would want to depend so much on outside efforts when such big important parts of their own business rely on WO. Many of us are willing to chip in with our own efforts, but it would be nice to see some reciprocation (if that's a word) from Apple. | Details... | |||
| Jeremy Rosenberg | Project Wonder basics and tutorials. Solutions for building WO Components in a post WOBuilder world. Eclipse/WOLips - Converting from Xcode - Other exciting features of Eclipse/WOLips - Replacing WOBuilder in Eclipse/WOLips environment (with better than text editors) Project Wonder - General overview of features and advantages - Anjo Krank's "Project Wonder for the Rest of Us" class - Adding it to an existing project and things to watch out for - Using it for a new project AJAX - AJAX/WO Overview - How AJAX changes the standard WO architecture - Best practices using AJAX in WOComponents WebObjects - Apple's plans for it - WO community plans for it WO/Web Services - Review of current WS/WO integration - Apple plans for changing it (again) WOCommunity/Apple - Ways to better work together - Concrete plans for future work | 1 | 5 | The price of WWDC + $200 |
If my understanding is correct, Apple has retained control of the frameworks and largely abandoned any plans for updating or improving WO and/or its tools. Yet, WO remains a critical resource to Apple, who expects the WOCommunity to step forward. This implies that Apple is now dependent on the WO Community (we have, here, a co-dependent relationship). These facts should be reflected at WWDC by Apple's encouraging a full and robust WO track with independent presentations on WO technologies. I don't see why we (the WO community) should have to plan for sessions on the boundary weekends and evenings, when our primary reason for attending WWDC is for WO information. Anyone who is a part of the community, who has a close relationship with the WO managers at Apple, should be working to better integrate our efforts and opening a FULL WO track at WWDC to independent presentations. Apple used to do this, so it's not setting precedent. I would so prefer that to an anemic Apple-only WO track of the same old same old with the really exciting presentations being offered by independents at less convenient times for more money. There are so many technologies blooming that can, and should, be wrapped in WO, and so much exciting WO work being done outside Apple, that this just seems like a no-brainer. It would be even nicer if Apple were to pay presenters a stipend for some of those presentations (which could certainly increase WWDC attendance). However, whether they paid or not, I'm sure many of us would be willing to put a professional level presentation together just for the PR (and perhaps the price of admission?). I'm just sayin'... | Week of WWDC | Details... |

If Apple isn't going to do this why don't we together fund a series of presentations delivered using Breeze or a similar technology. This would a.) make the material available to people who can't get to WWDC b.) not 'interrupt' WWDC for people who need to see the other sessions c.) make information available to people who see WebObjects when theylook through the Xcode cd but face a learning curve like a cliff We (I) have access to a learning management system that can store and deploy these presentations so how about we share the information we have and bypass WWDC completely for this | Details...

I'm extremely interested in this kind of thing. I feel more and more like WebObjects is going to be carried by the user community outside of Apple, and this strikes me as a perfect way to build and develop that community. | June 9th and 10th | Details... |
| Mark Ritchie | WebObjects development and deployment. I have a strong interest in measurement and optimization. | 1 | ? | I would push hard to make this get together happen after WWDC since there's always something to talk about. WebObjects 5.4 Deployments on other unix flavors WOLips and new tools a la WOBuilder. | 1 | 1 | DUNNO |

- AJAX - Deploying on BSD (and Linux) - Advanced topics (managing object graphs with many many objects, like >10k, caching and all it's "black magic" related-stuff, concurrence problems and solutions) - Very advanced (lunatic?) topics, like integration between WO and OO databases. | 1 | 2 | $300 | I like the idea of asking Apple for a spare Moscone room, altought I think the answer will be a big NO! :) But I agree with Jerry, we should all say to Apple that we want them to support and develop WO, that WO is important at a time where web apps are growing like mushrooms, and that we want serious tools to do our work, and not hype-poweres stuff like we know what... :) | During WWDC, or in the weekends before of after | Details... |

JavaScript-client to replace Java-client | 3 | 3 | ??? | We would love to discuss the state of WO with other likeminded developers. A co-worker of mine came across a cool comparison of various web application creation environments. The screencast was done on a Mac, but WebObjects wasn't included. I'd like to make a similar screen-cast to show how WO beats RoR, etc, with ease ... (although everyone else IS catching up...) http://oodt.jpl.nasa.gov/better-web-app.mov | ??? | Details... |
| Piotr Intres | Linux Deployment, Wonder/WO Logging, Best Practices, Automatic Web Tests, Ajax | 1 | 1 | $200 | Juni 10th | Details... | |
| Simon Oliver | Cutting edge Ajax integration - the various libraries and how they play together (or not); 5.4 Deployment; Wonder core replacement classes; what they do, why, and what it buys you out of the box; performance tuning EOF; Getting the best out of Eclipse/WOLips; Wonder/WOLips roadmap; opportunities to get involved in documenting and testing the community efforts; how we can collectively work to help maintain the quality *and stability* of the tools and frameworks. | 1 | 2 | $250 |
I'd like to see some detailed walkthroughs of the topics; not just the cursory "here's a bunch of function names; they do cool stuff; look there's a 3-line example; go read the docs and figure it out..." that seemed to be the hallmark of many of the WWDC sessions I attended last year. There's a huge amount of cool stuff in WO, and especially in Wonder - but as an end-user developer, rather than a contributor that already knows how it all fits together, it's hard to know how best to get started with a lot of it. The JavaDocs are mostly a good reference once you understand what's going on, but its often too low a level to easily get started - this would be a great opportunity to understand the big picture, and get a roadmap for how to effectively leverage it all. Maybe some hands-on workshops? I also agree that it would be great if this was part of the WWDC itself. | June 9/10 | Details... |
